Students intending to register (grades 9-12) or enrol in courses (grades 10-12) need to be aware of the following:
- Course content is delivered online; paper resources are used in classes but distance learning/paper copies of the entire course are not available
- Students need to have the appropriate hardware and network connection to connect and learn online.
- A mobile device (phone, tablet, iPad, Switch, etc) or gaming console (xBox, PlayStation, etc) are not appropriate for online learning.
- Students require access to their own computer. Families with multiple children will need to have access to multiple devices.
- Students require a quiet learning environment that is equipped for school work. Common areas (e.g. the kitchen) are not appropriate for learning if there are other activities occurring at the same time.
- Success in online courses relies heavily on family supervision and guidance and the ability to self-start and self-motivate as a learner.
- Students must be committed to attending to learning. This means:
- Students are expected to complete work daily. An hour per day per class iOS recommended.
- Students are expected to hand in assignments regularly throughout the school year, not saving assignments for submissions at the end of the semester.
- Students are expected to communicate about academics with their teacher at least once per week.
- Students who have previously demonstrated a lack of attendance to learning with Palliser Beyond Borders or with their home school may not have their registration request for classes with PBB accepted.
